2019 Year of Young People, Vocation Discernment and Mission<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Bishop Valentine Kalumba, OMI, today addressed a multitude\nof  congregants drawn from Livingstone\ntown and the surrounding areas who gathered at St. Theresa\u2019s Cathedral, where\nhe told them of the love and care the church has for the young people.  \u201cWe want you to know that we love you. The\nChurch loves you. I cannot think of any other church where in two consecutive\nyears, a church dedicates her time to reflect on the theme focusing on young\npeople\u201d, spoke the Bishop as he launched the year of Young People, Vocation\nDiscernment and Mission, under the main theme of \u201cHe Walked with them\u201d (Luke\n24: 15).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his homily, the Bishop asked the young people to\nlisten to the Lord Jesus. To heed his voice, even in the midst of worldly challenges\nand difficulties. The local ordinary asked: \u201cHow do we discover the presence of\nJesus in difficult situations of unemployment, perceived lack of\nmisunderstanding and trust from their parents? To overcome such situations, the\nyoung people were implored, to get close to Jesus and the Church. \u201cJust as\nJesus Christ accompanied those two disciples on the road to Emmaus, the church\nwants to accompany you, the church wants to get close to you to feel your\nproblems\u201d, explained the Bishop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bishop took advantage of the presence of the young ones,\nby reminding the school going children, to take seriously their education. \u201cTake\nyour education seriously. I am sorry to say this but the truth is that most of\nour catholic school going children are dull. Why is it that in our education\ninstitutions, those who excel are usually the non-Catholics\u201d? interrogated the\nBishop. He equally encouraged the young ones, to make proper usage of Social\nMedia by not visiting immoral sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the same occasion, Happy Zulu a youth\nrepresentative, challenged fellow youths, to take seriously the message of the\nBishop of being the church of today. \u201cYoung people, we a no longer the future church\nbut the church of today. So let us actively get involved in the Mission of the\nChurch in our respective parishes, by volunteering to be teachers\/animators of\nfaith. Let us fill in the gaps in our parishes\u201d, said the youth leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch of the the year of Young People, Vocation\nDiscernment and Mission, under the main theme of \u201cHe Walked with them\u201d (Luke\n24: 15) by his Lordship, runs from January to December 2019. It  follows immediately the Year of Youth, that\nwas observed last year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
