I’m very proud of what you have done – Bishop Kalumba

Rt. Rev. Valentine Kalumba, OMI., lays the building block.

Rt. Rev. Valentine Kalumba, OMI., has on Friday 9th September 2022, officiated at the Ground Breaking Ceremony, where he blessed the construction site for Classrooms of St. Kizito’s Parish, Sesheke.

The jubilant Bishop could not hide his inner feeling at the positive development the Catholic Church has taken. He was delighted at the self-sustaining initiative the local church has taken.

Fulfil the Pledges

Conscious that the Diocese of Livingstone is still very much a missionary church, the Bishop called on the people of Sesheke to seriously embrace the call to support projects aimed at fundraising for the Church.

The Bishop stated:

We have been talking about a self-sustaining Church…we had missionaries in our Diocese before, and the missionaries were getting help from their countries, from their parishes, way back home.

“Now if you ask us [the local Priests and the Bishop] to give to the Church, what are we going to bring?. We are going to bring what we find in our homes. Ba bakatisa manawa, ndongo, mbonyi [These the local clergy will only donate beans, groundnuts, maize], that’s all, that’s what we have.

But to come up with such an initiative it’s a good thing, and I encourage you to fulfill the pledges that you have made (towards the project)”.

Complete the Project Quickly

Anxious to see the completion of this locally funded project, the Bishop encouraged the faithful of Sesheke, to quickly complete the building project.

“I hope that this building will finish as quickly as possible because it will generate income for the Parish, and we are going to benefit”.

The Bishop leads by Example

To practically inspire the Parishioners of Sesheke the Bishop pledged to donate 10 by 50kg pockets of building cement worthy US $ 98.00 (K1,400.00). Total cash pledged by the locals amounted to US $ 813.00 (K12,200.00).

The Ground Breaking event was witnessed by scores of Sesheke residents, the faithful of Sesheke, some business people and government representatives.
