Confirmation strengthens you – Bishop Kalumba

Rev. Rev. Valentine Kalumba, OMI., was at the weekend in Sesheke and Lusu Parishes where he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 84 candidates (33 in Lusu and 51 in Sesheke). Addressing the Confirmation candidates at St. Stephen Church, Katima, of Lusu Parish, on Saturday, 10 September, the Bishop highlighted the significance of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Through it they will be given the power to be Christ’s bold witnesses. By the reception of the Holy Spirit through Confirmation, the candidates would be strengthened to embrace the various services and apostolates present in the Church.

This same message was repeated on Sunday, 11 September at St. Kizito’s Church, Sesheke. The Bishop addressed the newly confirmed:

“Thank you to those who have been confirmed today.

“Once you are confirmed you are no longer young.

“Therefore share the faith you have received”.

Lack of Catechists worries Bishop

Concluding his Pastoral Visit to Western Province, the Local Ordinary bemoaned the insufficient number of Catechists at St Kizito’s.

The Bishop stated:

“When the catechetical team is complaining about lack of teachers[Catechists], it has an impact on the growth of church.

The Bishop challenged the Christians not to look for Catechists outside the parameters of their Parish, but from within.

“So we need teachers. I can see teachers here [Bishop pointing to the newly confirmed and the congregation]. I can see teachers there. I can see teachers here.

“So sit together as a Parish to identify those who can be Catechetical teachers”.

Catholic Church is based on Sacraments

The Bishop equally invited the congregants to embrace a sacramental way of life.

Keleke ya luna iyemi fa lisakiramenti (Our church is based on the Sacraments). If people are not receiving Sacraments, it means the Church will remain stagnant”.

Earlier on Saturday 10 September 2022, the Christians of Lusu Parish were promised an Assistant Parish Priest, to be assigned to the Parish by the end of the year 2022.
